Curing

Proper curing of concrete floors treated with PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM is essential to physical properties of the finished floor. The most effective method of curing is to use liquid-applied curing membrane at dosage rate of 6m/litre, preferably about 10 minutes after the power floating operation has been completed. PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM is foot trafficable after 24 hours but full service loading shall only be applied after 28 days.

Subsequent surface treatments are not normally necessary with PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM because of the high density and low porosity finish. Where a sealer is required, a second coat of curing membrane can be applied either within 24 hours if the first or at any subsequent time providing the floor surface is dry, clear and free from all contaminants.

Where a non-slip finish is desired, a single application of curing compound is recommended.

It is important all applications are uniformly applied without thick or ponded areas, which will adversely affect the quality of finish.

PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM should be applied at an even application rate of 4 – 7 kg/m2. It is recommended that the floor be marked off into bays of known area and sufficient material should then be allocated. Minimum application rate of 4kg/m2 is ideal for normal traffic white maximum application rate of 7kg/m is recommended for very heavy traffic.

Application of PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM should begin without delay when the base concrete ha stiffened to the point when light foot traffic leaves an imprint of about 3-6mm. The base concrete shall have minimum cement content of 250 kg/m3 base with minimum bleeding. Any access surface water shall be removed by burlap prior to application of PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM to avoid adverse effect on the strength.

Good concrete practices shall be followed when placing the base concrete to avoid excessive formation of surface laitance; and edges and corners are properly compacted to obtain accurate profile finish. On large floors it will be necessary to work progressively behind the laying team to ensure application at the correct time.

Application area shall be divided into bays for control of material distribution as well as work execution. Approximately 60% of material shall be broadcast and the balance 40% shall than be used for the second pass. Broadcast the first 60% of PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM evenly over the base concrete and when the material turns dark from absorbing the moisture from the concrete, light floating shall be performed to compact it to prepare the concrete surface to receive the second dose of the remaining 40% material. Precaution shall be taken not to overwork the surface at this stage. Once the second dose of material is fully moistened, the floor is again compacted using mechanical power float until a dense finish is achieved.

Application shall also be monitored to avoid being delayed whereby there is insufficient moisture left to complete the hydration of PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM and workability for power- floating, resulting in subsequent pitting and crazing effects of the floor finish.

Do not wet out the freshly treated surface with water, as this will cause damages to the quality of PolyFlor Floor Hardener NM.
