Polymer Modified Cement-Based Thick Base Coat

POLYMiX Coarse Mortar Base is a high quality polymer modified water-resistant cement-based thick base coat specially formulated for direct application onto cement-sand or AAC blockwall surfaces, concrete and plastered surfaces for patching and surface levelling works. It is highly recommended for all internal applications and under additional substrate preparation for external application. It is formulated into 3 grades, M for patching and levelling works onto cement-sand block or plastered surface only, GP for (Besar IBS SYSTEM general purpose application and HB for high build and spray application.

Adhesion to concrete (28 days): Approx. 0.6 N/mm² (lab condition)
Pot life: 1 hour
Coverage: Approx. 1.4 kg/m²/mm
Recommended thickness: 3-5mm/build-up/application (M and GP) 4-7mm/build-up/application (HB)
Binder: Portland Cement
Filler: Calcium Carbonate Powder/dry graded silica > 95% SiO2 content

Remove all loose materials or traces of foreign materials and ensure surface cleaned, free of dust and dirt. It is recommended to damp the substrate surface prior to the application of POLYMIX Coarse Mortar Base.
Mix thoroughly a bag of 40kg POLYMiX Coarse Mortar Base with 11.0-12.0 liters of clean water by using an electrical power mixer for 3 to 5 minutes until the homogeneous paste is achieved. Re-mix the material before re-use if the material is left undisturbed for more than 30 minutes.
Apply freshly mixed POLYMiX Coarse Mortar Base with steel trowel or spray machine to profile the substrate surface to an average thickness of 3 to 7mm. If application requires more than a single coat, continue to trowel POLYMiX Coarse Mortar Base and to allow the underlying coat to gain partial curing before applying the subsequent coat to achieve the desired flatness. POLYMIX Plaster Finish or Thin Plaster Premium can be then applied onto POLYMiX Coarse Mortar Base if extra smooth finishing is required.

  • Precautions!
  • Clean tools with water before the product dries.
  • Do not apply to extremely absorbent substrate without prior pre-wetting. In hot conditions, protect the surface from drying out rapidly by lightly misting to prevent powderiness.
  • Do not mix the product with OPC/white cement/lime.
  • Do not apply thinner than the minimum recommended thickness of 3.0mm.
  • It is a good practice not to exceed the recommended thickness/build-up and at a minimum of 2 coats and leave for initial set before applying the subsequent build-up.
  • Do not apply when there is vigorous hacking activity in the vicinity of the application area.
